    UUID's

    Hi,

I know that you can find some info re above by: sudo blkid

but can you find out what a UUID is by inputting its identifier? i.e.

196fe etc etc etc etc etc what are you??

    Thanks.

EDIT how do I sort out my system details below which seem to have lost their format? also 'Solved' as you can see!

One way to find out the relation between the device numbers like sda3 and the UUID is to start up the partition manager.
You select a device and right click gives the option of properties that tells you among others the UUID.

Have you read the man page for blkid? Lots of options. I thing the option -U may be the one you are looking for.
