    Can't install KJots and KTimeTracker

Muon complains that some other application is using the package manager at the moment (which is false).

    apt-get reports some dependencies broken:

    kjots : depends on : libkdepim4 (= 4:4.7.3-0ubuntu0.1) but 4:4.7.4+git111222-0ubuntu0.1~ppa1 will be installed.

    Any idea?

Re: Can't install KJots and KTimeTracker

    Hi
there is a command in terminal for clearing the situation with Muon saying another app is trying to download something.

I ran into it when I had installed Rekonq and Rekonq wanted to install Flash and it was not able to do it for some reason, but Rekonq was sitting there trying vainly, in the background trying to install flash.

I ran into it when I was in terminal and the terminal offered the command, which was a dpkg command to stop the process. It then installed flash and Rekonq stopped trying to install it, and Muon, then, would function.

Unfortunately I don't remember the command and I'm at work so don't have access to it, maybe somebody like SR can pop in and give you the command.

Time Tracker, I think, has been removed from repos or something, it is avaiable in other distros as a stand alone, but I noticed that in my install of Precise that it was not in the Kontact suite.

there is another thread here where a person was trying to get it to run. It kind of "came and went" randomly working, but like I said, it is not even in my Precise isntall, so...don't know, again a developer will probably know the specifics of the situation.

      Muon

The problem may be this: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=284962
      ------- Comment #1 From Jonathan Thomas 2011-10-25 22:47:55 -------
This could be a stale dpkg lock. Try running "sudo fuser -vki
      /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a"

      apt-get reports some dependencies broken:

What version of the KDE are you using ?
And what repositories are you using ?

      An example

I have upgraded the KDE 4.7.4 from the Ubuntu proposed (http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3119608.0) and after the upgrade i have disabled the proposed. So now:

      Code:
      :~$ apt-get -s install kjots
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
apt-get needs root privileges for real execution.
Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!
      Reading package lists... Done
      Building dependency tree
      Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
       kjots : Depends: libkdepim4 (= 4:4.7.3-0ubuntu0.1) but 4:4.7.4+git111222-0ubuntu0.1~ppa1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

That is: The available kjots is depending the libkdepim4 version 4:4.7.3-0ubuntu0.1 but the installed version is 4:4.7.4+git111222-0ubuntu0.1~ppa1. The solution, at here, is to enable the Ubuntu proposed repository, update the package database and then install the kjots...

      Code:
      :~$ apt-get -s install kjots

It's also a bug in Precise, which I've already reported to bugs.kde.org

Thank you guys for your kind support.

A few hour ago I performed a big automatic system update and the problem is gone without doing anything from my part.

Not sure, but I think KDE has been also updated and now I have 4.7.4.

            Thank you!

BTW, how can I mark the post as SOLVED? I can't edit the title.

                    Hi
I don't know that it would be good to mark it solved. I just got a big update today, not obviously for Kontact, and the calendar is now working, thanks muchly to the devs for Kontact, but Ktimetracker is still crashing when one attempts to edit the dates.
