    Getting the 4.8 rc2 packages

I've been having a terrible time with kmail2, and from what I read on line, many of the problems with it have been fixed in the 4.8 rc2 packages. How can I get them? The beta repository does not seem to have them.

Usually they will become available with in a few days. If I remember correctly, judging from previous releases.

      The packages are out there

From what I read in the KDE bugtracker, the binary code is already out there. When I asked about it in that forum, I was told "ask your distro". I wouldn't be so impatient except for the almost total breakdown of kmail in the rc1 release. Ever since the transition from kmail to kmail2 I've had nothing but grief with that program, and I was pretty satisfied with it before then. kmail2 is almost unusable for me now, but I have all my email history stored in kmail files so I can't just simply switch to something else. And right now I can't retrieve my email at all.

        http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2012/01/05...ntu-devel.html
        Code:
Riddell	groovy all 4.7.97 compiled on my machine for precise. reviewing my packaging before uploading to PPA	16:56
        mikecb	Riddell: that's 4.8rc2?	17:57
        Riddell	mikecb: yes	18:10
        mikecb	sweeet	18:18
Riddell	compiling now in kubuntu-ninjas, if you want to test (needs password)	18:18
mikecb	I'm on 12.04, will that get it at the same time?	18:19
Riddell	mikecb: it is for 12.04 but we put it in a ppa for testing first, testers will be needed shortly	18:19
        mikecb	kk	18:20
        mikecb	I'm game!	18:20
Riddell	but it's still compiling	18:20
Riddell	so don't try until you see all the packages are 4.7.97	18:21
Riddell	which may be a couple of hours or may be ages if the buildds are slow	18:22

Soon to be in the repository?

That conversation seems to imply that the rc2 stuff will appear in the beta repository within a few hours, once the compilation and concluding ceremonies are completed. Right?

Re: Getting the 4.8 rc2 packages

            I read it like this:

            - Compiling now in the Kubuntu-Ninja PPA.
            - Closed test.
            - Copied to Precise & Oneiric PPA

            Maybe tomorrow ?

I got the RC2 packages. KMail still fails totally on GMail with IMAP. Are they putting this off until 2020?

What sort of fail? I actually have Kmail2/4.8 RC2 working with Gmail - apart from searching, which is totally fubared.

Yeah, Gmail is working quite nicely here, too. Searching works for words in message headers, but not message bodies. C'mon, Nepomuk, do yer thang!

Are you allowing Nepomuk to at least index your email? I believe this is required in KDE 4.8, unlike 4.7 (can't recall right now where I might have read that).

Yup, and the neopmuk email feeder is installed as well
