Are there programs for measuring the boot time of your machine?
Can you tinker with the kernel and still use official kubuntu releases?
I figure you can at the very least modify kernel modules which are probed for at startup by removing them from, er, wherever the list is located... This machine is considerably faster than my older machines, but it boots slower! Specs: 4gb ram, 2 dual core 2ghz processors.
