Kubuntu desktop disappeared. A Ubuntu type default now shows

    Hello
I downloaded 3 different music players, synaptic package manager and WICD.
Then I deleted knetwork manager and its related files.
I shut down the computer then restarted it an hour later. My cube desktops are gone
and I see a blue background as well as the unity desktop.
    Any ideas?

Does the login screen -- where you enter your password -- look like this?

If so, when you click the blue arrow in the lower left corner of the ID/password box, what do you see in the menu?

      Yes, it does

      Many thanks Steve!!!

I am up and running again in wonderful Kubuntu perfection!

For those who are interested, the blue arrow was a drop down selection
of six boot options which I didn't realize was there!

Default (Previous) < this option just brings you back to the last bootup (not helpful to me!)
KDE Plasma workspace <* this option restored everything!!!
      KDE Plasma workspace (Failsafe Session)
      Metacity
      Ubuntu
      Failsafe

      Thanks again, Steve!!
      Regards
      Ron

Oh I would like to make a suggestion to the KDE developers that the Boot Options Menu
should be obvious. I didn't pay any attention to the arrow as I thought it was just a design
feature on the menu, not serving any purpose!
