What is wrong with LibreOffice? I use it on a daily basis and it works great. Not one problem sofar.
Like I said, just a personal opinion. If it works well for you, that's great
(It works for me, too...but not a pleasure to use)

My main gripe with it is that it's rather big, monolithic and slow, and that's one of those things that is hard to fix (not a big problem with a modern computer, I'll admit). The UI is also a bit cumbersome.
About the UI: Yes, it is not what you would expect on a KDE install, but LibreOffice is not specially made for KDE, is it?
I had the same with Evolution. After having it used on Gnome it now looks terrible on KDE, so I switched to Thunderbird.
Do you run the latest Java. This can speed up things since LO can use Java. It makes it snappier.

It's not really about the looks of it. I use qtcurve that has a matching gtk-engine (I believe oxygen has one, too) so I can make it look pretty much like a KDE application. It's more about the functionality/scalability. Libreoffice is not something I'd like to use on my N900...nor is it likely ever going to be, no matter how much work is put into it.

Don't get me started about that

I appreciate your suggestions, though. And I'm sure libreoffice will work fine for most people.

Anyway, I didn't mean to derail the thread, let's get back to 4.7.4

No, the regular Kubuntu Updates repo (https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ppa). Backports doesn't have an Oneiric branch yet.

Upgraded this morning... Nice and smoooooth.

Have to say that kmail and the whole kontact suite is rather snappier now... Have to play more with them, but so far I like this update.

Yes it is, I'm back to Kmail full time and much happier. Excellent job on the packaging!

Hm. One of my Kmail issues has been fixed, it seems ... I can now use a procmail lockfile to keep Akonadi from freaking out every time postfix deposits new mail in the /var/mail mbox. I don't know if that's how it's supposed to work, but ok. But it still doesn't properly delete messages from that resource -- though it pops up umpteen notifications about unreadable messages when I try to view the seemingly undeleted messages. Back to Thunderbird... for now.

Edit ~ it seems I spoke to soon. The regular new mail Akonadi freakout is back. More bugs than before, then?

                    Re: KDE 4.7.4

I've been playing with a fairly new oneiric install on a spare partition. This morning I upgraded to 4.7.4. Then I cloned my home directory from my old reliable lucid installation. Just now I fired up kmail2 for the first time. It seems to have imported/migrated all of my email, folders, filters, everything. The only thing that looks amiss is, in the message list, for subject, sender, and date, all of the folders show

                    (No subject) Unknown Unknown

So far everything else looks OK.

                      Re: KDE 4.7.4

OK, I upgraded to 4.7.90 yesterday. Then I did the manual migration of my mail folders as outlined in the wiki. It took a while but it looks like I got everything intact.

The only thing left is filtering, which AFAICT is still not working. I take it that's a known problem, been around for a while. If I could solve that, I'd be ready to move permanently to oneiric and 4.8. Has anyone come up with any solutions or workarounds for the filter issue?

I see 4.7.4 has hit the main repository. (At least that's what I assume it is from the version numbers.)

I'm offered 614MB of updates. Admittedly this includes an update to kernel 3.0.0-15 (last version came out at the weekend, only 2 or 3 days ago?) and I have few debug packages installed, which are big beasts.

Has anyone installed this with good/bad experiences? On Kubuntu 11.10, even better on amd64.
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

                                http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-sc-474:
The previously announced KDE Platform, Workspaces and Applications 4.7.4 updates have completed QA testing and have been released to all users in the oneiric-updates repository. This is the last planned complete update for KDE SC 4.7 packages...
Here upgraded the KDE 4.7.4 from the PPA -> oneiric proposed -> oneiric updates. Working fine.
