says Kwin in 4.8 is optimized, especially for blur effect. I really want to test this out.

Re: KDE 4.8 beta
http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2011/11/27...untu-devel.txt
[00:10] <JackyAlcine> Is there a way to get the beta 4.8 now via a PPA?
[00:11] <apachelogger> JackyAlcine: nope
[00:11] <JackyAlcine> Gah :/
[00:11] <JackyAlcine> I'll wait.
[00:12] <apachelogger> most likely there will only be beta2
[00:12] <apachelogger> there is quite some work to be done before beta packaging can start
[00:12] <JackyAlcine> Understood.

Re: KDE 4.8 beta
News, to me anyway, is the Oneiric branch in Beta Backports:
https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/beta
Lots of 4.7.90 packages, but some still missing. A full upgrade at this point would hose kde.

Re: KDE 4.8 beta
just installed from the neon ppa and wow , just wow.
first off its way snapper even on my netbook!
the new kate features are great : better code foldeing and a colored line change indicator (sounds lame but should be really useful when coding stuff)
the new "icon only taskmanager" is basicly a really polished version of smooth tasks with working "show this task when not running" (i.e lanucher) i was never able to get that working with smooth tasks (or any other lanucher)
the XRender backend is now even doing effects at a decent speed.
i had a slight issue with Knetwork manager not seeing my wireless network. i had to add via manage connection cause it didn't show in the list. could just be cause i have kde 4.7.4 installed also or just a neon bug.
rekonq seams faster but will not keep me loged in to KFN. oh well back to chromium for now.. (really want rekonq if only for intergration with kget)
so far it seams like kde 4.8 is going to be a really nice release.

Re: KDE 4.8 beta
backports and neon are two different repos.
neon will install the beta side by side with your current version and backports will replace you current version.
the package kubuntu-desktop is a meta package and may only fetch a certian version of kde stuff. as for why it wants to remove the plasma-desktop package, it might be because the backports are not finished building 4.8-beta or just a packaging error.
if you must have it now you can try to use the neon version but be warned its not considerted stable (and is also beta software )Mark Your Solved Issues [SOLVED]
