More Kontact/Calendar woes - need help!

I've been using Kubuntu since Breezy Badger and despite the occasional problems I have been very pleased and these forums are legendary!

I know lots of people have had problems with migration and Kontact, but I've not seen this particular problem reported! I've had such a lot of problems since KDE 4.7.3 and Kubuntu 11.10 upgrades I'm almost in despair! I've already re-formatted and reloaded about 3 times, had complete corruption of my /home directory, black screens, hung displays and had these problems both on my desktop and my partner’s laptop.

I'm convinced the problem is Kontact/Akonadi related.

I thought I had everything sorted by yesterday (having had help from several posts) but today Korganiser has stabbed me in the back!

I've got all my (several years) mails migrated and imported from backups, and all is OK. My calendar was working but I kept getting a pop-up message saying "personal Calendar not loaded" even though calendar changes were being noted and recovered on reload. But this evening I looked again at the Calendar configuration settings in Kontact (Korganiser Main Configuration/General/Calendars and found that the Personal Calendar setting had no entries set. So, I set the file to ~/.kde/share/apps/korganiser/std.ics and to my amazement all the new entries in the calendar the calendar went blank! Just the old ones were there.

The question is -- Where in Heaven's name was Calendar/Kontact/Akonadi/Nepomuk/(whatever) storing the recently added new data? Prior to directing the entry to the ~/.../std.ics it was there! So it must be stored somewhere? Yes? Can anybody point me to where the data could be?

I know Kontact has frightened some people away! But in general it's been good to me (having kept good backups!). I do not want to move away, but all the various changes over its development are really a bit of a nuisance.

    Hi PhilT

I wish I could help but this is apparently in the Akonadai thing as you said, and that is way beyond me, but I'm sure someone will be along to help in a while.

Try going into System Settings - Akonadi Resources configuration and checking there. With the change to kmail2 I have started configuring everything there and it has worked well so far.

        Hi Jsubl2

You mentioned Akonadai resources, I don't see that in my install, I have "Desktop Search" which gives me Nepomuk and Strigi.

Could you be a little more explicit about what you have tweaked.

          run the command /usr/bin/systemsettings
          click on Personal Information
          click on Akonadi resources configuration.
The kmail2 config items are there.

            Hi
            jsubl2

I'm not too smart about all that Linuxy stuff so I just went to Personal Information in the System Setting menu item!

However, I didn't know that Akonadai did all it's stuff in there, I just let it do it's stuff and go my merry way!

            So thanks for the pointer!

I didn't have kmail in it since this is a fresh install, but in "add" I found Kmail but it didn't say Kmail2.

            Thanks again for the info!
