I wonder if there was some sort of (symboilic?) link between rekonq and firefox? Idon't have rekonq on my Kubuntu and I have no errors concerning either browser.

I think that it's more likely to be a misconfiguration on your PC as you're the only one seeing this problem.
How are you starting Firefox? From the application menu or from a short-cut on the task-bar or desktop? I suspect that your short-cut has some unwanted parameters in it.
What happens if you start Firefox from a terminal?
