I guess I spoke out of turn............... it appers that my (vanilla) 11.10 install will NOT do flash in Akregator in fact I cant get the option to use the nsplugin in the systemsetings> file Associations > flash>Embedding >add ........it's not on the list.

in my 11.04 upgraded to 11.10 it works just fine ??

Sorry guys...looks like my initial thinking about file associations probably doesn't matter. While my screenshot shows "nsplugin," that thing is in fact not installed on my system. Weird.

I use neither Konqueror nor Rekonq, so when I look through my installed packages, there are no official plugins at all. I rely only on FlashAid to get Flash working for Firefox. I tried the same example you guys did in Akregator, and when I finally arrive to the page with the YouTube video, I see only a black box where the video goes...not even a prompt to install anything. If I middle-click the link to open it in an external browser, a Firefox window appears and the video plays just fine.

FWIW, my Oneiric machine is upgraded from Natty, not a fresh install.

Hi Steve.

Since different people have had varying results, and some the same results, but with different interfaces on things like the file association thing, I think that maybe this is a "bug" in Akregator where is not "translating" the capability of the browser "through" to YouTube or something like that.

They "might" be able to get around this if the app was reconfigured in some way to just send a "call" to open the YouTube video in the normal browser as a standalone and not within the app itself. Don't know since that is way above my pay grade!

As of 10:42, CST U.S. 25 November 2011, after some updates Akregator now plays a youtube video within Akregator. I have no clue why but it was, apparently in the updates.

So...

a) either Akregator devs notice this thread
b) somebody here posted a bug report there
c) it was "in the works" anyway...

but, for me, at least, the situation is now "solved".

That's the (in)famous "just works" bug. It's been persistent and pervasive over all Linux distributions and versions. No one has ever been able to actually locate it, but all the evidence points to it's existence.
