rekonq: some buttons respond a lot slower and pictures load slowly too

I have noticed lately that some buttons on webpages are behaving a lot slower than I am used too, and slower than what I saw only a few days ago. These are the common kind of buttons like for instance the "log in" button on the facebook frontpage. Also some pictures seem to load very slow (like the one in featured thread on kubuntuforums frontpage right now, a glass of water with some ice cubes picture). I cannot see any sign of overloading the system or the net, based on the performance meters I have in my sidebar.
I was wondering if anyone is/has experienced similar behavior. The behavior is giving me windows xp flashbacks, what kind of spyware can this be... ?

I don't use reconq, but the image loaded slowly for me also.

And, quite often the forum just sits and "hangs" for me, at random times, but usually at least once in about, maybe, twenty times that I try to access a thread.
