    Question about 4.7.3

    Hi all,

    Just a quick questions about the release of KDE 4.7.3. About how long does it take the kubuntu-ppa team to get the new version packaged up for release?

    I see some exciting changes and want to be the first to get a copy ... Ok, I know that is not possible, but would like to know when it should be available.

    Thanks

    Joe

    Re: Question about 4.7.3

    It takes as long as it takes

    But seriously, it is nearing completion, despite a lot of the team is here at UDS
    The packagers do try to get these out as soon as they can, I do believe they are mostly done. Next week might be my best guess, but don't hold me to it.

    I shall be taking a packaging lesson tomorrow here at the summit, there may be more of us to help get things done.

      Thanks for the info, Claydoh!

      I will be patient, just getting anxious for the new bug fixes

      Take care!

              Grumble.

              For those of us who don't use akonadi having akonadi tray run at startup with no way to shut it off is irritating.

              The only way to keep it from starting is to get rid of /usr/share/autostart/akonaditray.desktop

              Apparently this will be fixed at some point but for now it's kinda irritating.

                    akonadi has been disabled - the problem is the akonadi tray utility autostarts on KDE startup.

                      Kubuntu-low-fat-settings disables akonadi tray somehow.

                        Thanks - I already fixed it. Apparently this is an Oneiric-only issue.

                          I've created the subdirectory /usr/share/autostart.dont and moved into that all the autostart stuff I don't want to, well, autostart:

                          $ ll /usr/share/autostart.dont
                          total 56
                          drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2011-11-07 09:18 ./
                          drwxr-xr-x 225 root root 12288 2011-11-03 15:35 ../
                          lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 40 2011-11-01 09:43 akonaditray.desktop -> ../applications/kde4/akonaditray.desktop

                          Voilà.

                            You don't really need to do that with these files, these desktop files have the
                            "X-KDE-autostart-condition" stanzas which allows for the autostarting to be disabled in their rc files, for example, the nepomuk .desktop files have:
                            X-KDE-autostart-condition=nepomukserverrc:Basic Settings:Start Nepomuk:true
                            Which means "start this service unless disabled in nepomukserverrc (~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc, section [Basic Settings], option [Start Nepomuk])".

                            You don't have to edit nepomukserverrc manually either, disabling nepomuk will disable autostarting as well. So even though these .desktop files are in /usr/share/autostart, they are effectively disabled.

                            EDIT: the main problem with your method is that package upgrades will put the files back in (but won't affect disabling in the rc-files)

                              The Kubuntu-low-fat-settings is using the "Hidden=true" setting in the /usr/share/autostart/akonaditray.desktop. More Harald Sitter: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...me/+bug/868970
