I just figured this one out last night after unsuccessfully searching. Maybe it's been covered before in which case my apologies.
I've been having the problem of seeing image previews for only some of the images I've taken with my digital camera, and couldn't figure out a rhyme or reason why.
The default size for whether Dolphin generates a file preview is 5MB, and my pictures straddled that threshold. To change this, go to Settings>Configure Dolphin>General>Previews Tab>Do Not Create Previews for local files of X MB and raise the value.
In case you found this post by searching and you're having trouble with Dolphin not generating previews at all, ensure the Preview button on the toolbar is clicked! Very obvious but it has caught more than one of us...
