For all those who like gimp in one window here is a good way of doing it.
But first as I pointed out in this post:

I had a few problems.
The biggest one being the fact that I tried to install using this PPA:
which had always worked in the past.
Unfortunately the orenic version did not have a gimp 2.7.3 so I renamed the repo to "natty" and that didn't install correctly and I got a few dependency issues.
So I tried this:
https://launchpad.net/~alex-p/+archi...filter=oneiric
This initially threw up a big error, which I had problems with.
doctordruidphd gave me some help, but that didn't really work as I had already tried a few other things and everything gimp was borked.
Finally I found that I had to remove the package libgimp2.0.
This was confirmed to me by the dev.
I then just did:
and it went through smoothly 
I hope this helps anyone interested in using gimp 2.7.3 and above
BTW there also some other neat graphic orientated stuff on that PPA.
