top and System monitor's results do not match

    hi...

when I monitor my resources using System Monitor program the results do not match my when I use top command.

in top, it shows my laptop is using 3GB RAM out of 4, but system monitor says only 1.3GB is being used...
same case for CPUs... the results are different.
this is all while the load average is 0.00 in top!
    Cheers, -Linda

Top doesn't separate cached ram from ram actually being used. Try free and subtract the amounted that's cached. I think you'll find it closer to sysmon.

    Here's mine

    $free
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 8001 7894 107 0 8 4132
    -/+ buffers/cache: 3753 4248
    Swap: 12307 21 12286

Can't speak to the CPU diff.
