switching desktops

I installed and have been using 11.10 for while, but had no speakers. Following online instructions I gained the gnome desktop, but want to get back to KDE. I checked the /etc/X11/default-display-manager. It shows: /usr/bin/kdm. But when I reboot I get the Gnome desktop. I have also ran "sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm. But I still get Gno/usr/bin/kdm
me. Any Ideas??
