    Real problems after update sunday

I did some updates yesterday, now Firefox is completly unresponsive and very slow to load pages. Chromium is behaving the same way.
Typing into a field )login, etc) does not work. Librepoffice is playing hard core as well. Cannot type correctly, will not set the cusor correctly, becomes completly unresponsive.

    Aynone have an idea?

IIRC the only updates I got over the weekend were a new network manager plasma-widget and wine. I have all the update boxes ticked in the software sources config and I don't have the issues you describe. Could the culprit be a ppa?

Things that could cause slowness in multiple apps ...
      • Is your graphics driver still correctly loading? The wrong graphics driver can have a huge impact on GUI interaction with apps as you describe. Were you using a proprietary graphics driver?
      • Are any processes chewing up CPU? E.g. as would be revealed by top.
      • Are you out of RAM and using swap space? E.g. because something upgraded is now using lots of memory.
      • Lots of background I/O activity. The iotop app is useful to check this, but you'll probably have to install it.
      • And probably several other possible causes ...
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

It probably is a ppa somewhere.
Could also be a graphic driver problem.
        I am using
        ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu
becuase those x-orgs have woerked well with my setup in the past (less fann activity, etc).

        Code:
        htop
doesn't show any thing out of the norm.

If you rule out CPU, I/O and swapping, then I would say graphics is by the far the most likely thing - graphics card driver or X or KWin.

I have tried that ppa myself from time to time. I didn't notice any spectacular improvement with my humble intel 915 card. However, what I did find was that one of the small number of windows apps I run under Wine simply loaded as a white screen with the ppa drivers. Purging the ppa fixed that particular problem for me and since then I haven't used it.

Well I fought with this for a while, couldn't really find the solution.
Dolphin also took ages to load and gave the fan a run forits money.
I finally just reinstalled a image I had made before and now all is well.
