Only use sudo for non-gui commands and use kdesudo for GUI apps. I don't know if this is the cause of your problem or not, could be.
I tried it (kdesudo dolphin) - regular permissions are still grayed out.

I added samrog131's repository but I don't know how to install anything from it.

Did you first remove your acl changes (remove your user and the mask entry in the advanced permissions dialog), the "regular permissions" should work again after that?

It seems rog did some clean up on his ppa (and the menu was never in the ppa for oneiric, probably because the menu is now installable with GHNS)...you can grab a slightly outdated package for natty here:
      https://launchpad.net/~samrog131/+ar...y~ppa1_all.deb
(This package should work fine on oneiric as well, the later changes to the menu are mostly GHNS fixes). The latest version of the menu is available with GHNS or manual installation. Of course you don't need the menu to make the changes, it's more of a convenience tool.

        That did the trick.

Got another problem. The terabyte hard drive is running sloooooow. It's taking 20+ minutes to move 1.5 gigs from the SSD to the terabyte HD. It's impossible to save anything to the terabyte HD from GIMP. It'd take forever if it didn't crash GIMP hard.
