    Basically, then, my function in terms of "testing" applications is of little use, for two reasons;

    a) there are no apps to "test" in terms of a "forum", my testing was, basically, constant "fiddling" with them, and

    b) I have "volunteered" dozens of times to do "formal" testing, in terms of testing against criteria produced by the devs( I mean this is not rocket science folks, and has been done for over twenty years), and have been roundly ignored by one and all, ....
    I am sorry for that. With no intent to rub an open wound, where were those formal testing offers made? Here? Elsewhere?
    Then I have little function except as a) Kibbitzer b) continuing the story in my blog c) making wallpapers.
    You ask questions. You observe. You have insight that many of us don't. You help 'as you can/are able to' just like many of us do.
    Since the point of my story and the wallpapers was the furtherance of "Kubuntu", not "applications" then with the good graces of the admins I will pop in periodically to do such.
    Even the boy who stands on the corner hawking the daily newspaper ('Get your paper here!') plays an important part in the News business. He isn't an editor. He isn't a reporter. He isn't a columnist, cartoonist, or advertiser. Yet, without him, the 'news' wouldn't be available to all the 'possible readers' the publisher wants to reach.
    Again, my apologies to the forum members, the administrators, and the fine fellow that PMd me a few weeks ago....he knows who he is!
    We all accept your apology even though we didn't feel one was required.

    Do not be a stranger. You are among friends here.

        What other tests were involved where current Linux office programs failed, that means only LibreOffice and OpenOffice. As others have mentioned the other programs are not actively developed or way behind.

        If its just the delete column... ummm.. without a review of the circumstances.... delete column has been in any version of either I've used.. more info on the situation.... if you tried it once and it failed, I don't call that reasonable.. problems happen on all software... YES my defense are up since I take great strides to smack down any use of that other OS and its software.. its absolute crud and it should be banned, no I am not kidding.

        This was NOT a "situation with Microsoft", and as I said above, it did not seem to be a "big deal" in terms of the capabilities of either suite, so I was given an opportunity to do a "demonstration" and had to use a Microsoft app to retrieve the "situation". My "reputation" is not lowered with these people, they realized that the situation was, to all "appearances" a "fluke", but once bitten twice burned.
        You post later that persons involved are willing to give any issues a pass on certain other software, but not in reverse?!? Well if it don't cut it on the other software it don't cut it on the software being tested, regardless of which it is. I used OO 2.3 for over 5 years and not one person was any the wiser unless I told them. I only used newer 3.2 versions went some dolt insited on sending me newer format versions that 2.3 didn't support.

        Hmm... I used it for over 6 years with out issue, and basically got work done which others couldn't deal with namely large spreadsheets from MySQL exports which certain other software couldn't handle, but my ancicent 2.3 version of OO just smoked it on!

        I don't know about Kontact, but I use KMail, its all I've ever used for email on Linux, and all I will ever use. I don't need schedule software, it came preloaded elsewhere.
