Problem during update after fresh installation

I am trying to install kubuntu 11.10 on an old Dell Optiplex SX80 (not sure of the right name).
Installation was correct (with Cd rom) but at first I launch an update (by clicking on the notification icon).
It goes well but it block around 56% during "dpkg execution" (actually in french : execution de dpkg). I am waiting more than hour...
    What can I do ?!?
Which file log can I send you to help... Or which command can I use to kill the process...

I can not shutdown (exept by push the power button ; and after a reboot, Muon tell me that dpkg is already running and I can not add in software)
    Please help.

Re: Problem during update after fresh installation

Did you confirm that your old computer meets the minimum memory specifications?

First, confirm that your CD has no defects, with md5sum (get the correct md5sum from the download site). It is important to know that the installation did not have some defect in the first place.

Second, there is a log file at /var/log/dpkg.log. You can open this with kate and read the last part of it. It might tell what happened (if there was some error during the installation of upgraded packages).

Third, if those first two items don't help, then in the terminal do:

    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    Code:
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
and post back if you get a different error messsage.

Fourth, if you still can't resolve the problem, we need to see hardware details. Open a terminal and do:

    Code:
    lspci -vv
    Code:
    cat /proc/cpuinfo
    Code:
    free -m
and post back with the outputs.

[SOLVED]Re: Problem during update after fresh installation

      [modedit: fixed formatting]

      RAM is ok : 1024
      checksum is Ok also
At the end you will find the dpkg.log file (I do not see anything trouble..)

What I have done since is :
      - kill manually the process
      - then, sudo dpkg -configure -a
      - then, sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I post at the end the file you request.

Now it seems to work well.
      It's a nice distrib !
      thanks for the help
