    Check Mail - akonadi error

    Hi,

I upgraded today to 11.10 and have resolved some of the issues already but another one in Kontact is, if i hit the button "Check Mail", a pop-up in the tray appears telling me "akonadi_maildir_ressource_0: Error opening ; this folder is missing." - why is that and how do I get rid of it?
    Thank you!

Re: Check Mail - akonadi error

        Hi
Akonadi is the thing that glues all of contact, and a few other things together.

        a) one cannot view yahoo mail offline
        b) the easiest mail to view offline and the calendar to set up etc. is gmail and gcalendar , contacts are having problems though. but the rest of it works.

        Please go to:

        launcher/system settings/personal information/akonadi resources configuration.

You should have your settings for the mail that you want, such as gmail, available so that you can fill in the requestor boxes in setup.

You will see maybe a blank white box, or something may be in it, but if you click the add button you will see the different things that akonadi can do for you.

The one you want, if you are doing gmail is not google mail but imap account.

When you have found that come back and describe the mail system you want to be able to work with using Kmail etc. and we can go from there.

Also There are some "tricks" in other threads that will be of use, just enter akonadi in search and peruse them.

There are several people here who are way more knowlegeable than I about akonadi and if what you need is beyond my poor capabilities I am sure they will help.

          Okay,

Yep got it - just had to clean up in there, there were a bunch of not configured items in there that I removed and now the warning message disappeared - however, do you know if i'm able to import my gmail contacts with Akonadi? GMail doesn't have an LDAP server as far as i know... is there an alternative possibility to do so?

          Thanks,

Correct, Google does not offer this.

If it isn't already present, you'll need to install the package akonadi-kde-resource-googledata. Then in KAddressBook you'll create a new address book of type Akonadi Google Contacts Resource. Enter your Google credentials. Then in the list of address books place a check next to the one you just created and its contents will populate.

Re: Check Mail - akonadi error

              Steve and reggler.

              Hi Steve.
Thanks for that, I was running off discussions some time back that contacts weren't working.

              reggler:

              Open Kontact
              click the symbol for "Contacts".
              File/new/add address book

you will get a requestor box and the first will be what Steve mentioned.
Click that and in the requestor box enter you google mail address and the password and in the center pane, within a very short while, less than a minute, you will see the names that are in your google mail account ..........

AND....if you have synced with your Android cell phone your cell phone contacts.

Steve, thanks again, I was behind the curve on this.
