    Kubuntu Low fat Settings

I was reading this thread, and wondering if anybody has tried out the "Low Fat" settings".

    http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3118376.0

My kids Linux box currently is running Lubuntu, but they have expressed interest in "getting that music player back with the wolf" (Amarok), and "those things we can put on the computer screen" (Widgets).

It's an older P4 2.4 GHz box with 2GB RAM. While I have nothing against Lubuntu, we'd all prefer it be a KDE box!

It previously ran 10.04 well, but it bogged down with both 10.10 and 11.04. Haven't tried 11.10 yet.

I've used it, works exactly as described.

One thing to watch out for with Plasma widgets -- many of them can undo what Low Fat Settings is trying to accomplish. BubbleMon, for instance, drives KWin CPU usage from 1-2% to 8-13%. I've seen other widgets affect KWin or plasma-desktop this way, too.

      Hi
      What SR said plus one
if "the kids" want the media player with the wolf, I would, personally, go back to a "plain vanilla" taskbar and NOT do ANY "widgets".

it depends on what "the kids want"...really.
