[SOLVED] Wubi install worked fine, standard install doesn't...

I was using Kubuntu 11.10 through Wubi from Windows 7 for a few weeks just to test some things out and make sure everything worked fine. Which it did. Everything was fast, all Kwin effects worked flawlessly, opengl compositing, etc.

I decided to do a full, standard install. It's been all down hill from there. The only way I can get Kwin effects to even think about working is by switching to XRender, and even then, some of the effects I want to use won't turn on. This is after being just as up to date as I was during the wubi install. (Which worked 100% perfect from the very beginning.)

Also, installing themes from within kde doesn't seem to work properly anymore. After you install from the theme manager, the themes don't show up in the list. (This only seems to happen for plasma themes. Window decorations are fine.)

Also, this might be specific to Quassel, but it didn't happen until I installed normally, but it will not connect or do anything. It's as if it's completely ignoring commands.

I'd like to get things working right. I had a good experience with the Wubi install, I just don't understand where things could have changed up. It's the exact same iso I got wubi from.

EDIT: My laptop has integrated graphics and an NVIDIA Geforce GT 420. 11.10 had the NVIDIA drivers turned on by default. Deactivating did the trick. All effects work fine now.
