    Plasma (panel) hangs

    Hi all,

I have one really annoying problem with the latest kubuntu version: at random times, the plasma panel stops responding.

I cannot seem to figure out exactly which widget causes the problem. I tend to notice it when
    1) the amarok icon in the system tray does not respond to clicks
    2) alt + F2 does not show up or hangs (usually in the middle of typing (could the search it executes cause plasma to hang?))
    3) the lancelot launcher does not show up

I'm running a somewhat custom panel with the lancelot launcher, quickaccess, window menubar, system tray, clock and lock-logout widgets.

    Does anyone experience similar difficulties?

Is there a way to determine what causes the problem? Does a profiling tool for plasmoid or something similar exist? That way I could see which one takes up most of the running time, possibly helping me find the culprit.

    regards,

Gmail-plasmoid freezes my panel. I fixed it by changing fetch mechanism from python to KDE in gmail-plasmoid settings.

      Re: Plasma (panel) hangs

It seems the problem is not in fact with the plasmoids themselves, but rather something graphical. By switching the graphics driver to the proprietary ATI driver everything works fine.

I'd still be interested in knowing a way to profile plasmoids, as I would still like to know whether it is caused by the drawing routines of a single plasmoid or if it's a general problem...
