Definitely file a bug report. This should not be happening.

I found an opened bug report:

      https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...it/+bug/618786

I found a putative solution that I'm testing with success for while.

      http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...79&postcount=4

This so simple solution made me remember from earlier time with Linux... when I first learned that scripts in rcX.d are executed in numerical order...

Something interesting I've read while searching for a solution: "UNIX was not made to be shut down" (http://tldp.org/LDP/intro-linux/html/sect_04_02.html)

        have/do you use BUM/startup-manager?
I had the same issue as you, and was caused by messing up initscripts

No, I don't. But I noticed that I fixed the problem and then installed VMWARE Player 4 and it changed the scripts back, so I needed tho change them again.

            Odd. In my rc0.d, I have S40umountfs, S60umountroot, and S90halt
In rc6.d, same arrangement, except S90reboot

I don't have VMWare anything installed, so maybe that's it. Strange thing for it to do, though.

On my debian kde system, I have VMware Player 4.0 installed. I just checked /etc/rc0.d and found a "K01vmware" script. But the filesystem umount and the halt calls are in sensible sequence, and later.
