    LiveCD issue

Not sure this is the right space ... but ... so I used Universal USB Installer to make a LiveUSB of 11.10. I've used 10.04 previously, so I'm not completely unfamiliar, but not yet really comfortable either. Anyhow, I boot into the live version.

Everything seems OK at first. Would be nice if the LiveCD would announce prominently what the login ID/Password was. Seriously difficult to find out, actually. You don't need it on initial boot in but if anything triggers a login, the newbie is stuck. and ubuntu/blank for kubuntu is not intuitive.

Desktop comes up and looks nice. I turn away for a few minutes. When I turn back, the desktop is still there ... but now there is a horizontal bargraph at about 2/3 down the screen and it is running back and forth in time with the brightening and darkening of the screen. Obviously the bargraph is part of the brightness control. Once this starts, I can find no way out except reboot. Keyboard and mouse work, but sluggishly.

Hmmm, OK, I've rebooted and it's worse than I thought. Left clicking on icons does nothing. I can right click and open a menu and then left click on run and the menu goes away. But nothing runs. I have not yet been able to fire an app.

I can type Dolphin into the Search and Launch line and it runs. Left clicking opens folders and such. Left clicking/double clicking Graphics or Games on the home screen begets nothing.

Left clicking the 'Turn Off Computer' button works, albeit slowly.

    Suggestions?
