i am also having a nightmare problem with flash and java. both need udated and can't figure out how. i'm getting ready to scrap kubuntu and go back to windows. i like kde and some of the other features of this distro but i'm getting sick of every little update or change being a huge ordeal. if kubuntu wants to move ahead in the desktop market and attract new users they are going to have to simplify the installation and upgrade process. not everyone who might use their distro has a degree in computer science.

          Hi...

Please take a second look, there's more information I need.

Not trying to be rude, I'm just wanting people to understand the problem this has been.

EDIT: For flash player, does this help? For Java, please see here.

          Regards...

my main concern is my ethernet and why kubuntu is not recognizing the ethernet cable and network. the cable works, router works, it is kubuntu that is not doing it's job

                  Hi...

                  I did....

                  1. What is your computer make and model number, lspci readout (done,) and version of Kubuntu?
                  2. How and when did this problem start? After an update?
                  3. What have you done to correct the problem in detail, if anything?

I did post links in my previous post that might help you with the installation of Flash and Java.

                  Regards...

i don't know when this problem started, i've been using my wireless and i want to go ethernet wired for speed/security. i have done nothing besides try to set up a wired connection which does not work because my network manager keeps telling me there is a cable unplugged when there is not.

                      Hi...

                      Thank you

Could you also post the readouts of these two commands...

                      Code:
                      sudo lshw -C network
                      Code:
                      ifconfig -a
I have to take off at this point, I'll be back later to check on this thread, Lord willing.

                      Regards...

It could very well be a bad connection in terms of one wire not connecting well. Cat5 can do that.

doubtful that it's a connection prob since lshw -C network says eth0 is disabled for some reason even though i never disabled it. i need to know how to enable eth0. my network manager says eth0 is unmanaged though it is set to auto dhcp. wireless works but i need eth0 to work.

ok, not sure why this happened but i got it to work by changing my mac address for eth0. i noticed that eth0 hw address was all zeros so i changed the last number to see if that would show up when i ran ifconfig -a and was connected by ethernet instantly. i ran this
                              ifconfig eth0 down
                              ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:09
                              ifconfig eth0 up
does anyone know why this happened?
