Ok So I got wicd, removed KNetworkManager. I can connect through eth0 but when I try to go wi-fi on it, it shows 'Cannot connect to access point' any ideas here?

So it does recognise your access point?
Did you select the correct type of encryption used by the access point?
And you have supplied the password?

Have you given it a go without encryption?

Yes, it recognizes my access point. My encryption is WEP, so I am good on that also. I have supplied the password.
I will try without encryption and get back to you.

Happy to say that my wi-fi works! I have changed WEP passphrase encryption to WEP shared/restricted in wicd and that did the trick. Thank you very much everyone.
