    wi-fi stuck at 'Waiting authorization'

    Hello,
I've installed kubuntu 11.10 a few days ago, and had troubles setting up my wireless connection. I have an atheros wireless adapter AR928x using ath9k driver. Some more information here:

Please help me out. I've bumped into a forum topic with a similar problem, but didn't understand any of the suggestions. http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3118970.0
As far as I can see, wifi driver is functionable as kubuntu reacts when I switch on/off my antenna.

try using the manage connections option to manually set a password for the network your trying to connect to . i've seen this before but it usually is when my wifi is going down on the router. do u have another machine to varify the wifi is working correctly since thats alwasy a good place to start on these sort of things.

Sithlord48, thanks for getting back to me. My ipod toch and my windows partition are doing fine, so the wifi should be working. Where can I find the "manage connections option"?

Oh I see the "manage connections". My password is set manually.

Sometimes it can help to delete the wifi entry and re-discover it. Right click on the network manager tray icon and look for "manage connections" and delete the entry from there (while disconnected) and try adding it again.

Others have reported that you need to remove Wicd and use KNetworkManager instead. Here are the directions for doing that:

yes, im not sure about that. i have not used wicd in a LONG time since about kde 4.2. i know that some people have problems with it but on all the machines i take care of (mostly laptops now, think im up to about 20 now..) KNM is working just fine. i travel alot for my job and my netbook has not had any issue connecting to customers networks they have all kinds of encryption some are using G and others using N mode.

I'm suffering a similar problem - have an Asus Eee PC 1000HE with same wireless card. On updating to 11.10 it takes AGES to recognise a wireless network, up to 30 mins before any show up. Once they do I can connect no problem, until something times out, then I have to start again.
Have tried removing and re-making the connection, but no difference.
Always worked fine in 10.4 (well, except it didn't like open networks much)

I tried deleting the wifi entry, and creating it again, no success. Isn't KNetworkManager a default in Kubuntu? Shall I just install it anyway? If yes, do I have to delete anything that stays on its place?

Well I'm not sure about KNM being the default.

Are those drivers proprietary? Is there anything in

                      Launcher>applications>system> additional drivers

                      Related to your atheros?

When I open "additional drivers" I get this pop-up window "downloading package indexes failed, please check your status. Most drivers will not be available" When I click on "ok" another window appears where the fields are blank and on top it says "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system"

Okay, you won't get anything without wifi. You'll have to connect eth0 via hardwire. Can you do that, get online, and check again?

I got online through eth0, took a look at the list of proprietary drivers. Here is what it showed:
                            "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver"
"ATI/AMD proprieatry FGLRX graphics driver (post release updates)"
So there are no proprietary network drivers. Any ideas? should I download KNM? or wicd?

KNM is the default network manager on kubuntu. you can try wicd, but you can only have one or the other so before you remove KNM to install WICD you might want to be sure you have a copy of the deb files incase you need to reinstall (or have access to wired network).

again i seen that waiting for auth issue yesterday but only cause our router had gone down. after it was restarted the connection worked as expected, even auto connected.
