Following a failed manual install of the AMD Catalyst drivers (11.12)... Did everything by the book (or so I thought)
Anyway I boot in and the system hoses with a black screen as soon as Plymouth starts...
So I need to get in and do some serious console work!!
Anyway I am using Burg on a separate (Chakra) partition to boot my Kubuntu 11.10 install.
Just can't seem to get a shell with R/W access to filesystem. I can log into a root shell with the recovery option (but that is R/O).
Is there anyway to force a Recovery mode with R/W access? I've tried passing all the obvious stuff, like "text" and "text recovery",
to the Kubuntu kernel (both 3.0.0.12 and 3.0.0.14).
I can obviously access the root partition from my Chakra install/ or a USB stick. So should I put back a generic Xorg.conf that doesn't
refer to fglrx (and remove it from the loadable modules)? Is there any other file-system fixes I could perform from a different distro?
First thing I plan to do when I get things working again is ditch ***** Plymouth!
I could reinstall the Kubuntu root partition... But where's the fun in that 8)
Anyone able to help a do·zy
