I ran the LiveCD of Oneric on my new Acer notebook.
The boot of the LiveCD took about 4 to 5 minutes. When it came up everything on the Kubuntu desktop appeared to work, with the exception of accelerated graphics. I tried the Active Desktop but essentially all of the features were marked as not functional, so I turned the effects off.
Keyboard and touchpad worked fine. A logitech USB mouse worked perfectly.
I updated Reconq with Flashplayer 11 and Youtube videos played video beautifully but no sound. KMixer had no speaker control (pulseaudio), so I opened a Konsole and issued "alsamixer". I ran the speaker slider from 0 to 95 and the video sound came pouring out of the speakers. Gorgeous sound. I plugged in my headphones and the speakers shutdown and the sound came out of the headphones.
I clicked on the wifi icon and the ESSIDs of nearby APs showed up nicely. I logged into mine.
At first blush I am pleased with Kubuntu on this Acer. I plan to explore the parms of the i915 driver to see if I can tweek accelerated graphics out of it.
