[SOLVED] Screen brightness dimming up and down, unable to control it

    Referring to this post:
    http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3107207.0

    I have a similar problem:

I installed Kubuntu 11.10 on my Samsung N150 Netbook yesterday. When it has been idling for a while, the screen brightness starts acting like crazy, adjusting uncontrollable up and down, with a brightness bar visible on the screen (the same bar as you would normally get, if you manually adjust the screen brightness with the adjustment keys on the keyboard, in my case: Fn + Up/Down-arrow). When this happens, I get no response from the computer no matter what I do. I am able to move the mouse-cursor, but nothing happens when I click on anything. If I move two fingers on the touchpad at the same time, then both KDE, Xorg and all other programs running in graphical UI terminates (HARD). I get the same text-screen as I got before my last login-session, and after a few seconds Xorg and KDE has restarted with a normal login-screen.

What is this? How can I prevent this from happening?

    Specs for my netbook:

    Have you seen this PPA?

    https://launchpad.net/~voria/+archive/ppa

It's supposed to solve a lot of Samsung netbook/notebook problems including the rapidly flashing screen when you try to adjust the brightness. It helped solve some of my Samsung N130 netbook problems but not all. Since the wireless connection was not reliable enough I gave up as I believe the N130 is more difficult to set up than similar models such as yours.

There's also a forum - http://www.voria.org/forum - it might be useful to have a look at before you install anything from the PPA.

Have you searched for other users experiences in Google? I found hundreds which confirmed my belief that the N130 was not going to run Kubuntu/Ubuntu very successfully.

That was very useful! My netbook is now running more stable than ever before, especially because of some processor-driver/plugin/whatever that came with the PPA. Anyway, the flashing screen problem stopped after I changed from netbook UI to desktop UI in my system settings, before I downloaded anyting from the PPA. Haven't tried the netbook UI again afterwords to check if the problem have disappeared permanently, but at least now my netbook is running correctly. Thank you very much! This problem seems to be solved in my case!
