Solved - finally thanks: apcupsd

Trying to get the apcupsd communication working.

In reviewing the apcupsd docs, it suggests the following command:

cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

I get the following output:

cat: /proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory

In looking at the the /proc/bus directory, there is indeed no /proc/bus/usb directory.

Did something change in 11.10 or did my installation get the setup incorrect?

Does anybody else have the apcupsd working and communicating with the ups via USB?

I changed the title to solved because when I tried the apcupsd status command today, it Worked!!!

Don't know why it works today and didn't previously, but something must have changed somehow.

Maybe the update to the new kernal, 3.0.0-14

Found out the real problem - apcupsd is NOT started at boot time. I had started it manually while playing around with trying to find out what the problem was. Had to do that again today.

So, unlike the apcupsd package for previous versions of Kubuntu, the current apcupsd package does not insert the lines in the start-up scripts to start apcupsd at boot time.

Unfortunately, the apsupsd doc does not cover how to set-up the start-up scripts. Any advice on how to do that?

sudo update-rc.d apcupsd defaults

Okay tried that and got the following:

sudo update-rc.d apcupsd defaults
System start/stop links for /etc/init.d/apcupsd already exist.

So I checked the file: /etc/init.d/apcupsd

That script file had an error line that lead me to the file /etc/default/apcupsd

and the final line in that file is:

ISCONFIGURED=no

changed to

ISCONFIGURED=yes

and checked that the apcupsd configuration file is configured properly.

Rebooted and apcupsd now starts properly on booting.
