    Realtek USB Wireless (8188CUS) Failure

Hi there all. I searched all this forum and couldn't find any answer about my USB wireless network receiver.

It has Realtek 8188CUS b/g/n chip on it. There is a fresh new driver on Realtek's website:

    http://www.realtek.com/downloads/dow...oads=true#2742

At first glance, it detects all the networks around including mine. Connects for a while but then disconnects and does not work anymore. I searched Ubuntu forums and there's no workaround for this and it's main problem with all Realtek USB wireless modules.

Infact, I found the only working solution to this but it works on Ubuntu, not Kubuntu and with the older driver:

    http://www.r-statistics.com/2011/11/...-ubuntu-11-10/

I updated Oneiric to the last bit including kernel but no improvement.

What should we do? Installing latest driver and blacklisting the so-called old one didn't help.

    Hi there

I see no reason why that link and instructions would not work on Kubuntu either. Kubuntu is just Ubuntu with a better Desktop Environment .

However, I would ommit the following instruction:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install nautilus-open-terminal
You can simpy open Konsole and cd to the correct location.

    Hope this helps!

Of course I didn't execute the nautilus thingy. Dolphin has a great "open terminal here" right click context option

Infact I lost the previous version of the driver, which I tested and verified the success on Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. But as the new driver popped up on the Realtek website, it's no longer there

But Ubuntu is no longer better than Kubuntu as much as I see so I gave up with the so-called unity headache and returned back to the good old friend, KDE.
KDE 4 has become rock solid without any serious bugs or lags since I used last time.

I agree with ya! I actually left KDE when 4.0 came out; there were just too many bugs for me. Stuck with KDE 3 for a while, but then went over to gnome.

Gnome 2 was fine for me but I always missed the KDE look and feel. Now that KDE is usable again, that's what I use now.

Gnome 3 is just having growing pains and Mint Linux is sure making it look good, but I think I will stick with KDE for the foreseeable future - hopefully, KDE 5 will be less intrusive; although, I hear they are going with Wayland and unless Nvidia develops a driver for Wayland, not sure what to do.

Nvidia has already stated that they would not develop a driver for Wayland, but Intel and AMD/ATI said that they would be ready when its released from what I heard. Maybe ATI video will turn into the kind of graphics cards on Linux when Wayland comes out :-D.

I do know that Unity is not picking up much traction so who knows whats going to happen with Ubuntu.

Glad you got your driver working!

No, I couln't get the driver work in Kubuntu as of yet :P
I'm connecting via ethernet for now. As I said before, I can't find the previous driver for now. Whatever, why can't the new driver work, I just don't understand.
