Oneric Support for HP Pavilion G7 Laptop

My wife just bought a HP Pavilion G7 laptop with an AMD A4 processor and an AMD Radeon HD 6480G discrete graphics video processor in it. I'm attempting to first test and then install 11.10 on it, but when I boot off the live CD I get the Start Kubuntu menu then nothing else. It seems to boot, but there's no video. I tried the vga=771 boot option, but that didn't help either.

Does anyone know if this laptop is compatible with Linux and if so, how do I get the video to work?

    Thanks,
    Bill Lugg

Well, I had a brain fart and tried 11.04 this morning - it actually worked. So the question is what has changed between 11.04 and 11.10 that would cause one to work and the other to not work?

Over on the Ubuntu forums is a post with the most detailed graphics diagnostics procedure I've ever seen. Perhaps working through that will help you uncover the source of your problem.
