This was a problem since 10.10, but until 11.04 there are always driver that finally works or there are workarounds. In 11.10, latest driver either from Jockey (even it says recommended) or NVIDIA would cause the console font to be unreadable, and the GUI freeze in the middle of KDE logo show (when displaying the 'K' icon, before it's completely drawn). The only drivers that work are old 96 and 173 version. My graphic card is GeForce 7200 GS / 7300 SE.
