I have a Lexmark C530dn printer attached to my home network (wired ethernet) which has been working perfectly for a couple of years. Since upgrading to Oneiric however I find I can no longer do two sided printing.
When I first upgraded, the printer wouldn't work at all, CUPS seemed to think it was permanently 'not ready'. In the end I had to delete and reinstall the printer to get it work. I've since realised that a request for two sided printing is being ignored. LibreOffice and other applications offer the option in their print dialogs, and I've also tried piping the output of enscript into 'lpr -o sides=two-sided-long-edge' in case there was a problem with the applications, but that doesn't work either.
Other things I've tried are making the default setting two-sided using CUPS admin on localhost:631, and restoring the PPD file from before the upgrade, but nothing makes any difference.
According to CUPS admin this is the printer configuration:-
Description: Lexmark_C530dnLocation: Adam
Driver: Lexmark C530dn Foomatic/Postscript (recommended) (color, 2-sided printing)
Connection: socket://192.168.0.196
Defaults: job-sheets=none, none media=iso_a4_210x297mm sides=two-sided-long-edge
Curiously I can do two sided printing to a Kyocera printer attached to a Mac on the network, and the Lexmark still works fine if I boot into Windows.
With thanks in anticipation.
