Volume control only changes front left/right not master

I have an audigy 4 pro sound card running in 7.1, I've always had issues with the card but most of these things are easily fixed for example:

    * Out of the box you get no sound because ubuntu configures it for digital output by default, you can only fix this by installing gnome-alsamixer and setting it to analogue (KDE's volume control is too dumbed down for me and lacks individual volume controls for each speaker and settings like a analogue/digital output checkbox, so you can only do it with gnome-alsamixer).

    * Out of the box, the front, rear, sub, and centre are all up max volume, but not the side which is always at volume 0 after you install ubuntu, so I hear no sound in the side speakers by default when I choose 7.1 configuration, once again I need to fix this just after installing ubuntu using gnome-alsamixer and putting the side speaker volume up, but I shouldn't have to do this after I have already selected 7.1 as a speaker configuration.

The above two bugs are minor, and I have been experiencing them with every release of ubuntu for the last 3-4 years, I just don't really know which packages to report these bugs against, also because the problems are easily fixable they haven't really been that much of a concern to me, it would be nice to see them fixed though.

The problem I am experiencing as well, which I have been unable to fix, is that the kde master volume only adjusts the front two speakers, rather than adjusting the "Master" volume channel that I can see in gnome-alsamixer. KDE has an option to choose the master channel but it is useless because it only allows you to pick a sound card (audigy or HMDI on video card), but not a particular channel to use on that sound card, so it doesn't help me at all.

Does anyone know a solution for this, how can I force the KDE volume control to change another channel (Master), rather than front left/right only.
