sony vaio fz-f31z fn keys (brightness)

hi guys. I've just installed kubuntu 11.10 -clean install- and the only problem I face now is that the fn keys for +/- brightness are not working. I followed some guides in this forum to set the acpi off in the grub and to add a line to the grub but I still can't control the brightness of the monitor. Any idea?

    Things that I've already did:

    > Checked acpi-support: installed
    > acpi_osi=linux, off acpi_backlight=vendor in grub: not solved
    > Option “RegistryDwords” “EnableBrightnessControl=1″ added in xorg: not solved

    Anyone to help?
    Thanks in advance

In my VGN-FW21E with Kubuntu 11.10 64bit all Vaio's FN and Multimedia keys working without extra Grub or Xorg param.
Oneiric doesn't need any additional packages for Sony because all modules are "included" ( for exam, check if you have "acpi-support" ).
Maybe there is nVidia's related problem -that i believe you have on your vaio, i have Ati-.
I think that i have see some posts about nVidia's proprietary driver problems with FN keys incontrary to nouveau driver.
    Good luck.

Yeah it's nvidia driver setting. I don't want to set it to nouveau for now. I found a temporarily solution with adjusting brightness via the nvidia panel settings.

I hope in the next nvidia driver the fn keys will work out of the box

      Thanks

You can try these kernel parameters:

        noapic
        nolapic
        acpi=noirq
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

I'b be interested to know what your xorg log file says about the edit. Look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and see if "RegistryDwords" generates any comments or attach a copy of it to your next post.

I assume you've installed the nvidia driver are are no longer using nouveau?

Also, verify the keys are actually being detected. To do this, open a terminal and run xev (you may have to install it). Then press and release each of the brightness keys while watching the terminal for output. Cut and paste a small portion (just a unique piece - we know it will be repeated many times ).

Finally, see if there's any dmesg output: in a terminal, type dmesg. Then press the brightness keys, once each, and type dmesg again and see if anything new is in the output.

Thanks for your answer as I said in my first post I have tried the registry works fix but it doesn't work for me.
I have tested and the keys are detected.. I'm confused with that problem. I hope that will be an update soon :/
