sound card does not work after upgrading to Oneiric [SOLVED]
Re: sound card does not work after upgrading to Oneiric.
You can also check in System Settings > Multimedia > Phonon under the Device Preference tab. Your system might be defaulting to your on-board audio instead of the sound card.

There's a good chance your system runs pulse audio, the volume control for it is the package pavucontrol.
Did that... actually I have 2 different drivers and seems that the problem is they are not in the place they should be.
I played a music in amarok to check when the sound will come out, it was silent. using pavucontrol, under tab output devices, I have 2 different devices:
-Manhattan HDMI Audio [mobility radeon HD5000 series] digital stereo (HDMI)
-Internal Audio Analog stereo
amarok was shown in front of internal audio... the sound was low so i increased it so I could hear it. but the problem is, only amarok has a volume. vlc, for instance is silent.

Re: sound card does not work after upgrading to Oneiric.
is it possible that my sound card is not supported by kubuntu at all...?
i've followed this link's instructions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting, and a list of all supported sound cards is available here: http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main
I cannot find my sound card brand listed there.
this is what I can find from lspci...:
Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)
Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan HDMI Audio [Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series]
Re: sound card does not work after upgrading to Oneiric.
if programs like vlc and flash in firefox are muted but amarok has sound check back in your alsa mixer and be sure your "PCM" volume is turned all the way up and not muted.

i rather dont do that..
I'm really trying here to convince myself to stick with kubuntu, if I have to do that, i'd rather change my distro because this problem only is with kubuntu and specially with Oneiric.
My sound card was perfectly fine with Natty...
