    Plasma Apps not anti aliased

    Hey all

Having a strange issue. When I have a plasma app on the desktop, for example, the analog clock, the hands on the clock are not anti aliased. Before, on 11.04, when I would have a clock on the desktop, they looked good and sharp.

Not sure if there is a setting for this with the new version of KDE, so I thought I would ask.

Here is a link to a screen shot so you can see what I am referring too... Look at the hands on the clock... They look really blocky and jagged. Before, they were slim and looked great.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Same here. I'm not worried 'bout it. 11.10 isn't 'final', and there are still going to be some issues to be experienced.

Ok, cool. As long as its not something I forgot to set up

I actually went in and selected another theme for the clock and it looks fine. Probably just the Glow theme not finished.

      Thanks for the reply !

I think graphics system raster is responsible for this. When I started using raster in 11.04 i had the same problem like you.

You can change back to X11 rendering to see if this is a raster bug. Install kde-config-qt-graphicssystem package, then go to system settings>qt graphics system and change to X11. Logout and log back in and see if problem persists.

Oh cool, another toy to play with :-D. Thanks man!!!!

At work now, but when I get home I'm going to try this out...

Looks like, from the web site, that we can select X11, raster, and OpenGL. I wonder if OpenGL would be a viable options to make things "Spiffier" :-).

          Thanks!

Hope it works for you. It failed miserably on my Lenovo T410 with nVidia NVS-3100M. While I can use OpenGL for desktop compositing, I have to stick with raster for Qt. It is noticeably improved over X11, at least.

Good to know... What did it to to your desktop? You mentioned it failed miserably. What failed?

I'm interested because I also have an Nvidia card - 260m.

              Thanks!

When I enabled it and then rebooted, X wouldn't start properly. It would try to kick in but show only a black screen. My mouse cursor appeared as a small white square, which I could move around freely. But KDM failed to load.

If you try it and see similar failures, you can always revert by switching to a console ([Alt]+[F1]) and editing the file ~/.kde/env/qt-graphicssystem.sh. Change it back to raster, re-reboot, and you'll be fine.

I get this also but find it doesn't affect the default panel for some reason.
The clock and taskbar on my standard panel have normal, smooth text but if i add a second panel and add widgets to that, such as clock, menubar or current application widgets, the text is all blocky.

I have not have this sort of trouble, but the attached image shows my desktop with the Advanced Desktop Effects settings that I have. My video card is an ATI Radeon X2300.

Thanks for the info... My settings looks just like yours...

Interestingly enough, there was some updates this morning and one included a new nvidia driver... Low and Behold, I rebooted and now my clock is anti aliased like it should be, so looks like its been fixed.

                        NoWorries,

What is that panel in your screenshot on the left? Looks like some kind of launcher. Looks slick - care to share what its called?

                        Thanks!

What's the version number? I'm grabbing nvidia-current from the X Updates PPA and mine's still at 280.13.

When I checked with glxinfo, it was at the same version, but the desktop is now anti aliased. Could have been another package, but that was the only package I saw relating to video. I'm not at home atm, but when I get there, I will check the logs to see.

I saw that the post release update is at 285, but not sure I want to install that yet :-D

285.03 is available now in the xorg-edgers-fresh-X-crack PPA (love the name, heh). I'm not going to bother putting that on my production Natty laptop, though, since we're so close to Oneiric release...
