    Fans running at full- SOLVED

Does anyone have any suggestions how to deal with all my fans running at full?

I fresh installed Kubuntu Oneric 11.10 beta2 last week, and since then all fans are running at full. There was no problem with Natty with the same hardware.

Everything is set to silent in the bios, and fans are silent when running Windows 7 (dual boot).

Hardware is: Asus P8Z68-V PRO, Intel Core i5 2500K, Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 8 GB, OCZ 120 GB SSD 2,5" Vertex 3, Seagate Barracuda® Green 2TB, Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 1GB GDDR.

    This isn't a laptop.

    Pwmconfig gives me:
/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed

    Any ideas or suggestions anyone?

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Re: Fans running at full

Fans can be notoriously finicky to get under control. On my Lenovo, I have to use thinkfan (and work through its tricky configuration) to get any semblance of quiet. Sony laptops can benefit from a similar vaiofand utility.

Because thermal adjustments are often specific to hardware components, I'd recommend a forage through everyone's favorite search engine. Also, check out the Phoronix site for the sad saga of unfixed power regressions in newer kernels. It's getting worse, which could explain why you're seeing a problem in Oneiric but not Natty.

Thank you both for your suggestions, but everything I read about thinkpad seem to suggest it is a utility for laptops. Am I wrong in this? The computer I am talking about clearly isn't a laptop.

@woodsmoke- I don't understand your reply "I tend to VERY PLAIN VANILLA hardware but very FAST!!!! lol" . Is this some sort of useful suggestion?

that video card is very new. that could be part of your problem , perhaps you should try to install the properiatry ati driver that should support the power control on the video card better.

Correct, thinkfan is for Lenovo laptops, as vaiofand is for Sony laptops. I know neither of these is a solution to your particular problem, I mentioned them in case other people who happen to have these computers -- and frequently suffer from the same problem you are -- might find this forum thread.

@sithlord48- thank you very much, that solved the problem! I'm back to hearing a lovely quiet box.

I hadn't realised that it was only the graphics card fan running at full.

Also I usually use proprietary drivers, but generally wait until the final release time as I find that proprietary drivers can cause a lot of problems in alpha and beta.
