    Cannot set volume per user

This has been a very long running problem in kubuntu for me and it is still there after installing beta 2:

If I set a volume, it sets the same volume for all users.

    For example:

I turn my volume to it's lowest setting or mute because I am somewhere quiet.
I then logout and another user logs in, their volume is set to lowest or mute.
So that user then turns up the volume to listen to some music then logs out a little later.
I login again and my sound is way up to what the second user set it to.

My audio is Intel (ALC270) internal soundcard according to Kinfocentre.

Do you have "Restore Volumes on Login" set?

Yes, that option is checked (by default, I haven't touched it).

Hmmm, according to this bug report http://old.nabble.com/-Bug-249180--N...d29549240.html

        That button is reversed!

Try unchecking and see if that works...

Well tried combinations of unchecking in both users and checked in one but not the other but it has made no difference to the problem

From what I've read, it seems that the issue is with pulse audio not playing well with kmix.

You can try to disable pulseaudio support in kmix by add KMIX_PULSEAUDIO_DISABLE=1 to the file /etc/default/alsa

Hmm, from what I remember when using the last kubuntu release, without pulseaudio I am unable to to switch audio to an external HDMI display (which I often do when watching films).

Sounds like you may be stuck between a rock and a hard-place...

Keep looking, a solution may turn up somewhere.
