    Odd issue with install?

I’ve been trying to install the 11.10 beta (I’m using the 64-bit DVD version/download) for the last two nights now.

Everything seems to be fine and then the install process halts at 60% during “Checking for packages to remove…” After a brief duration of repetitive hard drive activity the machine just stops doing anything.

I’m currently attempting to install Kubuntu 11.10 on the same guinea pig machine (specs listed below) that I have run Kubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 11.10 beta 1 on with success?

    Any ideas?

    Intel Core 2 Q9650
Asus Rampage Extreme (Intel X48 chipset)
    4GB of 1600MHz RAM
    Nvidia 8800 Ultra
    Creative X-Fi (PCI)
PC Power and Cooling 1000Watt PSU

try a newer daily build would be my suggestion, or at least look if the installer has the option to update itself at the beginning of the process.

Also try re-checking the iso, and burning at a slower speed may help

      Thanks for the response.

I did try downloading it a second time but I got the same results, halting the installation at 60%.

Is there anyone here using the 64-bit version, if so which download did they use?

I always use the cd iso, the dvd doesn't offer me anything I need that warrants the download size. I also use a thumb drive in place of a spinning disk usually.

I do suggest trying a daily build
        http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/
as the installer will have had some updates and save you from a relatively massive amount of regular updates you would have to do.

Sometimes (but not always) the installer has a link to update itself, right at the bottom where the release notes link is. That may help as well.

          Thanks again for the help/suggestions.

I ended up taking your advice and downloaded the 64-bit version from the daily build area and it installed no problem.

I’m very impressed with this OS to say the least and this is just a beta, lol.
