    Problems ejecting discs

If I eject a disc via device notifier eject button it seems to "kill" my DVD drive.

It ejects disc OK, but then I am unable to put in another disc.
Pushing tray in does not work, pushing eject button to load disc doesn't work.
The DVD drive appears to be dead. Reboot and it's back to normal, at least for the first disc.

    Is it just me ?

    Re: Problems ejecting discs

Fresh install today using daily live 64bit iso.
    Can't eject now!
When I select eject in device notifier I see a white cross on a red background and that's it.

Any hints as to how to trace cause of problem appreciated

      Re: Problems ejecting discs

When I try via the terminal this happens

      eject -v
      eject: using default device `cdrom'
      eject: device name is `cdrom'
eject: unable to find or open device for: `cdrom'

      Any ideas?

        daily live 64bit iso
So, you appear to be using a LiveCD and you are ejecting or want to eject the LiveCD?

Everything is running from the LiveCD in the CD-Rom. If you eject the LiveCD the system will stop...

If you want to use e.g. an audio cd and you only have one CD-Rom you could try booting from a USB stick and leaving the CD-Rom for other stuff.

Sorry for any confusion, I downloaded today's daily live iso and installed it.

So Kubuntu is up to date and running from hard drive.

I can NOT reproduce your quirk.......But I just ran off updates 2:50 EST US .... 199 of them.

I put a cd in the dvd drive of my laptop open it in Kscd,VLC,or Dolphin (which wont read all the contents) and it can be ejected with the device notifier or from in Dolphin and reinserting the cd gets it "notified" agin and can be used in any app that will.

            vinny@vinnys-HP-G62:~$ eject -v
            eject: using default device `cdrom'
            eject: device name is `cdrom'
            eject: expanded name is `/dev/cdrom'
            eject: `/dev/cdrom' is a link to `/dev/sr0'
            eject: `/dev/sr0' is not mounted
eject: `/dev/sr0' is not a mount point
eject: `/dev/sr0' is not a multipartition device
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr0' using CD-ROM eject command
            eject: CD-ROM eject command failed
eject: trying to eject `/dev/sr0' using SCSI commands
            eject: SCSI eject succeeded
            vinny@vinnys-HP-G62:~$
I do know that if the drive is still in use by something it can be troublesome to eject some times .
