I agree the Quick Access widget should be put back by default. I also think it should be preconfigured to show tooltips and previews; that'd make it much more useful ...to me, anyway. Of course I've long set it up the way I want, but I remember being new to KDE 4 and wondering why I couldn't expand folders in Dolphin, why icon views were so uninformative, etc.

    3. Desktop usage
    - Maybe it should be posted in KDE forums instead, but I find easy shorcuts are lacking for presentation effect and next/previous desktops switching (more a matter of personal taste for the latter).
Having desktop-switching-by-scrollwheel turned on by default would be nice, too...

    - When using the kickoff menu and browsing applications, in 11.04 when you entered a category of applications, you had an arrow on the left of the application's list to go back one level higher. It disappeared now, not sure if this is a bug or a feature (feel as a regression to me, because it was intuitive way to go back).
There's a little navigator at the top now. I'd still prefer it if the menus would just expand in some fashion instead of switching around so much...

Thank you very much, problem perfectly fixed.
NOTE: For others having same problem, file menu.lst has been replaced by grub.cfg. Also save it before modifying just in case.
If you're unsure where to add the "nomodeset" option, look for it in the "recovery mode entry" then adapt the normal boot entry.

      Code:
      ffmpeg -r 30 -s 1366x768 -f x11grab -i :0.0 -vcodec msmpeg4v2 -qscale 2 -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -acodec pcm_s16le filename.avi
the -s 1366x768 can be changed to the resolution of your screen.
you will of coarse knead ffmpeg and since your getting that you may as well get winff 2

Thanks, having XvidCap for video only was already great (thanks again x-shaney-x ^^), but your command line method also brings sound into play! Perfect

Hmm never noticed these features, but interesting ones indeed. Don't find these option with Folderview, can't find the stock widget of 11.04... What is the name of the widget again plz?

You normally shouldn't edit grub.cfg directly (if you do, your edits will disappear after each kernel install/remove/upgrade). You should instead:

        1. edit /etc/default/grub, line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT (in this case add nomodeset)

        2. run 'sudo update-grub' which will create a new grub.cfg based on your new settings
(update-grub runs automatically after each kernel change to make sure grub.cfg is updated along with new kernel setup)

Sweet. Is it on the installation disk, or did you have to go to a PPA?
No it's not on the CD. After you install 11.10 just do an update.
            sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

Just checked out your videos... Very nice!

I will have to try xvidcap myself.

Been thinking about trying beta 1, but have been reluctant to try as of yet. Maybe I will load it up in a Virtual Box

              Anyway, thanks for the videos!

Just scroll your wheel while the mouse is over the Pager widget.

It's just usually more convenient to do it on any empty space on the desktop... just like it's convenient to have the app menu or window switcher pop up via mouse clicks on any empty space.

The problem with that, for me, is that I sometimes am scrolling through a web page or document and accidentally end up with my mouse on the task manager or pager while I'm scrolling, and suddenly I'm on another desktop or I've just maximised another application by mistake. (Both the task manager and pager widget respond to the scroll wheel.)

If desktop switching by scrolling the mouse on a piece of empty desktop were the default, I might tear my hair out.
