Every time after logging in the kded4 process jumps to 50% CPU (i.e. 100% of one core). I can kill it but lose systray and suspend functionality (among other things, probably). I've reverted to a default setup with a fresh ~/.kde, nouveau driver, no telepathy or any funny business... to no avail. Is it just me? I've been upgrading Kubuntu "in place" for several releases now so there might be old clutter interfering.

Re: kded4 is at it again (100% CPU)
I would assume that, since you're posting in the 11.10 discussion, you're using 11.10 and have the latest KDE 4.7 installed?
A little more information would be helpful:
- Are you using the nouveau driver with "Experimental 3D acceleration"?
- Do you have desktop effects enabled?
- Have you tried using the proprietary Nvidia drivers?
- Is the 'kde4' process the only process eating up CPU?
- Does the CPU usage drop after a period of time? or remain 50%?
Those are off the top of my head but should get us started.
Cheers!Man by his very nature is dependent on other men.

Re: kded4 is at it again (100% CPU)
Yes. 11.10 with KDE 4.7. It was working well, too.
I went back to using the proprietary driver but I've tried all combinations of desktop effects/no desktop effects/proprietary nivida driver/nouveau driver. (Not sure about experimental 3D acceleration right now -- no idea where to activate/deactive that and can't check since I've escaped to Linux Mint. )
kded4 is the only problematic process. It remains at 50%.
Edit: I've also tried switching the Qt graphics system back from "raster" to whatever the default was, but that didn't make a difference.
Edit: It might be this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ck/+bug/826969 ...going to check

Re: kded4 is at it again (100% CPU)
I have the same problem here, also. I have the process suspended (not killed completely) and I haven't lost the systray yet. IS ther any way to have kded4 loaded and stopped immediately upon login at least until ntrack is updated? The unjust distribution of goods persists, creating a situation of social sin that cries out to Heaven and limits the possibilities of a fuller life for so many of our brothers. -- Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires (now Pope Francis)
