I had to fall back to 11.04 because of kernel problems. It is the last version that works on my laptop. When I previously had 11.04 installed the backports repo had the KDE 4.7 updates. I found the news article here and added the repo, but KDE 4.7 is no longer there. http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.7 Does anyone know what happened?

Copied from ubuntu natty in Private PPA for Kubuntu Ninjas
You could ask this from the Kubuntu developers. maybe from the kubuntu-devel irc...
My guess:
- It is a PPA repository, not a stable repository with a planned EOL /1/ day.
- The Natty/KDE 4.7 was unmaintained: "There's only so many of us and we can only package for so many releases" /2/.

2. Asked with the KDE 4.8.3: http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2012/05/05...ntu-devel.html
Ezim ScottK, mean if I wanted 4.8.3 for my 11.10. will ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports not get it? [17:55]
ScottK We don't package that. [17:56]
ScottK We'll do 4.8.3 for 12.04 and quantal. [17:56]
Ezim ScottK, weird becuase 4.8.2 was there. [17:56]
ScottK That was before 12.04 was released. [17:57]
Ezim so I will not get 4.8.3. going to cry. [17:57]
Ezim :P [17:57]
ScottK The way to get it is upgrade to 12.04. [17:57]
