    Activiate Desktop Effects

Desktop effects have been disabled on my computer for a long time because I didn't have enough RAM to run them. I recently upgraded my RAM, and when I tried to turn desktop effects on, I got this error:
Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.

Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type.
How do I fix this or change these settings?

please remind us what type of hardware your working with,CPU,RAM,GPU,etc, etc,,,,,

+ you can try setting Kickoff>system settings>desktop effects>advanced tab and try changing compositing type and/or disable functionality checks.

and we would nead to know if your using a vid driver you installed.

RAM in and of itself may not be the problem. IF your video card/chip/driver (you haven't told us what it is) may actually have more significance. Not all GPU's/Drivers will support some, or even any, of the desktop effects.

My CPU is an Intel Atom N455, I have 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, my graphics card is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 and I don't know what driver I'm using.

Intel GPUs are not always capable of handling the Desktop Effects. You can try disabling the functionality check (System Settings > Desktop Effects > Advanced and check the Disable functionality checks box) While you are on that tab, what are the options/settings that are being used?

KDE desktop effects work great on my Toshiba NB205 netbook, which also has an Intel Atom CPU and Intel GPU. But my GPU is not the 3150, it is a 945GME. Make sure you are using OpenGL compositing.
