Why or why am I having to write this? I just don't get it.
Kubuntu has/does not have access to Ubuntu-one? Who knows? Why is it a secret? This is plain stupid, and I don't really have time for that. They're going after Windows users - that's obvious at the Uvuntu-one website, but we're...what? Invisible?
In the packages, I see "ubuntu-one-control-panel" - and installed it...and of course it just disappeared. No menu entry, no instructions anywhere that I can see. If you know what to do, fine. otherwise you're in application hell. Again. And so shall we be a niche OS for all eternity.
Digging around a bit I locate "file:///usr/share/doc/ubuntuone-control-panel/README", which says "This is the Ubuntu One Control Panel." Now that's really fine work. Helpful, too.
If anyone can give me the missing clue what to do at this point, I'll invest a little more time in this...once I get over being really pissed off.
======== UPDATE for those who follow after me... ======
The problem, as I think I've already made clear, is that we KDE folks appear to Canonical to be fishfood , AND, if I may say so, too many of us accept it that it's OK not to have clear pathways to the functionality which we seek when we come to computers in general and linux specifically. This is a shame, in my eyes. I've never found this to be OK. If you program it, document it. Period.
I did additional searches of the forums, and discovered this thread - http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...0169#msg270169 - by searching for "Ubuntu One". There I learn that the control panel launch script is file:///usr/bin/ubuntuone-control-panel-gtk. Fire that up and things start happening.
Now...I'm still majorly pissed off, for the simple reason that functionality one cannot get to simply doesn't exist. Humanity needs more functionality, not more nerd-games. So, I'm going to look for a way to make a path to this for the next guy/gal, given that access to a Ubuntu One account IS not a trivial functionality.
I'll see what I can do - maybe some wiki somewhere? Wikipedia (yeah, I like that).
